‘Song For Franz’ is a single from Alex Nicol, filled with complex expressions of both anger and sadness. The extremely personal release is about Nicol’s uncle Franz, who tragically took his own life. It’s a beautiful piece that uses a very difficult situation to address the way men are conditioned to suppress their feelings, and does so via tender, dreamlike images of everything from cowboys to spiritual redemption. It’s profound and melodic, with direct yet hazy textures underpinning the lyrcism.
